Super Amigos

Asia Pacific Premiere

Mexico 2007 / 82min. Spanish with English subtitles.
Director Arturo Perez Torres / Producer Arturo Perez Torres

Step aside Super Man, Spider Man, and Batman…there are five new heroes here to save the day! They don’t travel at the speed of light or drive a flying car, but keep your capes on, because these guys are masked, tough, and ready to give someone the boot.

Super Amigos follows 5 modern-day Super Heroes in Mexico City as they fight for social justice and human rights. These modern-day Super Heroes are a group of Lucha Libre wrestlers who have taken their fight out of the ring and into the streets of the Mexican capital. Super Barrio, Super Gay, Ecologista Universal, Super Animal, and Fray Tormenta are real life masked Super Heroes who fight against evil slumlords, corrupt politicians, homophobia, pollution, animal rights abusers, and poverty. Though their true identity remains a mystery, they could easily be Mexico City’s most popular figures and last salvation.

This is an escapist adventure with a mixture of live action, comic book-style animation and a surf guitar soundtrack inspired equally by mariachi music and Batman. Super Amigos shows that with a little imagination, a good heart and the right mask, anyone can activate their communities to triumph over evil.
