Dale Earnhardt, aka “The Intimidator”, is a legend in NASCAR racing with his black Chevrolet and larger-than-life persona.

Narrated by Paul Newman, this moving and inspiring behind-the-scenes story brings together archival racing footage, family home videos, interviews with Earnhardt, family, friends and other fellow competitors like Richard Childress, and Darryl Waltrip.

Growing up, Dale would watch his father build and race dirt track cars, dreaming that one day he would do the same. When Ralph Earnhardt died of a heart attack in 1973, his son vowed to continue the racing legacy.

As a teenager Dale began racing near his home in North Carolina, building, repairing and financing his own campaigns and in 1979 joined the NASCAR competition for the Winston Cup becoming the “Rookie of the Year”. The next year he won the Winston Cup and his rapid rise to champion status made him one of the first superstars of NASCAR.

Although a fierce competitor, he was a gentleman off the track and was always accessible to his fans. In a twist of fate, he accidentally died while racing the Daytona 500 in 2001, doing that which he loved and before the crowds that loved him.
