Director Nina Davenport.
When actor/director Liev Schreiber hears of the bombing of an Iraqi film student’s school, he is motivated to invite the student to join the film-shoot of Everything is Illuminated in the Czech Republic. Everyone including Muthana, the student, expects a happy ending but as his stay on foreign soil continues, events begin to move in a tragic direction.
Muthana is not prepared for being independent nor is he for a high-stress Hollywood film set. As the lives of his family and friends in Bagdad become increasingly endangered due to the mounting violence, Muthana becomes convinced returning home is not an option. He has to build a life for himself outside of Iraq, but in order to do that he is dependent on his American benefactors. But how long will he be able to rely on them when they become less and less convinced that Muthana is really making an effort?
