Whetu Rere — The Sea Lion and the Comet

World Premiere

New Zealand 2007 / 24min.
Director/Producer Kat Baulu, Alastair Jamieson.

New Zealand sea lions are some of the rarest seals in the world. Very slowly they are making their comeback on New Zealand shores, but human interference makes it anything but easy.

Whetu Rere -The Sea Lion and the Comet follows the sea lion matriarch Mum who has just given birth to a new pup and the group of conservationists trying to protect the sea lions in today’s difficult circumstances.

The film gives a short but truly intimate portrayal of sea lion behaviour and hardships faced by a young pup in the weeks immediately after its birth.
