IF YOUR FATHER NO LONGER REMEMBERS YOU, DOES HE STOP BEING YOUR FATHER?
Australasian Premiere
Germany 2008 / 84min.
Directors Rick Minnich, Matt Sweetwood. Producer Olaf Jacobs.
A week after a seemingly harmless car accident, Californian data processing executive and father of five, wakes up with total amnesia. He no longer recognises his wife and children
and has a great deal of difficulty with the simplest daily tasks. There is no evidence of brain damage or other physical causes.
For the family, this marks the beginning of a never-ending nightmare. Within a few seconds, forty-five years of Richard’s life are erased forever. They have lost a husband and father.
A New Richard emerged. He left his family, has a new girlfriend and a completely new life. Sixteen years later Old Richard’s eldest son, director Minnich, returns to California to investigate why his father’s memory still hasn’t returned.
Minnich reconstructs the story from before and after the accident. He uncovers startling facts that shed a very different light on his father’s memory loss.
Was Richard really struck by a horrible affliction, or was he trying to escape from a life he could no longer lead?
