Doris Day, the most successful female box office star in Hollywood, has written cinema history by simply playing Little Miss Average. She is 85 and has not appeared in public for over thirty years.
“I just loved the way you sang “Day After Day” – why not call yourself Doris Day”, quipped band leader Barney Rapp in the 1940’s to the teenager he just heard singing on the radio.
She never liked the name, thinking it sounded too phoney, but nevertheless she took Barney’s advice. Doris Mary Ann von Kappelhoff became Doris Day and the rest is history.
Doris Day is a cultural icon of the 20th and 21st century. The documentary will reflect the turbulent and successful life of Doris Day with extracts and trailers from some of her many
feature films, stage and TV appearances and interviews with actors Philip Brown, Peter Graves, Jackie Joseph and Noah Keen, and her fans and childhood acquaintances.
The film reveals and contrasts the foibles and characteristics of her real life against the background of her screen and music life.
A playful and tongue-in-cheek study of the fairy tale career of Doris Day featuring “Que Sera Sera... What will be will be....”
