Capture: Youth Unscripted is a Converse filmmaking workshop and documentary competition
for young filmmakers organised by Auckland City Council, Community Action on Youth and Drugs (CAYAD) and DOCNZ.
Workshop
Date: 10am–2pm, 20 April 2007
Pioneer Women’s Hall, Freyberg Square, Auckland Central
(between High Street and Freyberg Place)
The free workshop on 20 April 2007, open to Auckland city students aged 13 to 18 years, will introduce the importance of documentaries and how young people can get access and participate in documenting the world around them.
Students will hear from established film makers about making documentaries and tips for documentary making with what resources are available.

Competition
Entry deadline: 11 June 2007
Create a short documentary and your film could be shown at the 2007 DOCNZ Film Festival.
This competition is an opportunity for people aged between 13 to 18 years to tell positive stories of how young people are involved in their communities.
Competition entries will be judged by peers and established New Zealand filmmakers. Winning films will be shown at the DOCNZ film festival, held from Sept–Nov 2007.
Rules for entry
- Your film must be entirely made by young people aged 13–18 years who live or attend school in Auckland City
- Your film must be an original
- Films can be made using any video camera or mobile phone
- Films must be on longer than 3 minutes
- Your film must be about one of the following Identity themes:
- Your community needs YOUTH/Youth participation—Young people being actively involved in all areas of our society: the family, school, workplace, place of worship, social group and wider community.
- Positively RE:Defining Youth Stereotypes about:
- Drugs and alcohol
- Youth crime
- You must obtain all necessary rights and clearances (get permission to film people, use music, etc.)
- Submit the final version of your film on DVD (2 copies required)
- Selection: A Selection Committee will choose the films to be screened at DOCNZ 2007. If your film is selected for the Official Competition, you will be notified in writing by the organisation committee.
- Awards: The organisation committee will appoint a jury and the jury will award the prizes for: Best Film and Best Director.
- Competition closes: All entries must be received/post-marked 11 June 2007.
- Film return: DVDs used for pre-selection will not be returned.
The entry of a film in Capture: Youth Unscripted is regarded as an acknowledgement of the above regulations.
Submit your film
Attach with your entry:
- 2 DVD copies of your film
- 1 completed official entry form
- Rights clearance forms:
- Subject Release Form: The person, who the film is about, should sign this form. Signing this form means that they agree to be in your documentary.
- Location Release Form: The person, who owns the location (house, garden shed, school), where you'll be filming should sign this form. Signing this form means that they agree to have their location be in your documentary.
