Documentary Edge Festival (formerly the DOCNZ International Documentary Film Festival) is Australasia’s only international competitive documentary film festival. It is held in New Zealand and showcases the very best in documentary film from New Zealand and around the World. The festival runs from late February and includes Awards Night, Q&A Sessions with filmmakers and special events.
Each year the Documentary Edge Festival aims to screen a selection of award-winning and critically acclaimed documentary films.

We are dedicated to putting words into action and being a festival of the people and for the people. We look to increasing access for communities that do not have ready access to watching films eg. the deaf and hearing impaired, the physically challenged, the disadvantaged youth, senior citizens, ethnic communities that are not familiar with documentary films.
Documentary Edge Festival embraces the latest trends in documentary film-making and seeks to expose New Zealand audiences to these developments.
Documentary Edge Festival Programme includes the following sections: NZ Competition, International Competition, Best of Fest, World Cinema, Heroes & Icons, Culture Vulture, Country Focus and a spotlight.
The Documentary New Zealand Trust will introduce a new annual award at the Documentary Edge Awards 2010.
This award is to recognise either an individual or an organization for their contribution to New Zealand’s documentary industry. The presentation will take place at the Documentary Edge 2010 Awards, which will be held at on 3 March 2009 at the Raye Freidman Theatre, Gilles Avenue, Epsom, Auckland (by invitation).
Individuals, organisations and companies from all levels and sectors may be nominated. The term "outstanding contribution" may describe a single action, activity or achievement, or an entire lifetime of commitment but such contribution has added to, enhanced or changed the course of New Zealand’s documentary industry.
