A Dragons’ Den for Docos — following on the success of last year’s DOCNZ Pitching Forum which saw filmmakers successfully pitch a number of documentary ideas successfully to local and overseas commissioners resulting in commissions and co-productions, the Pitching Forum will return as part of New Zealand’s premiere documentary industry event, the DOCNZ Summit 2007 held 24th—26th September.
DOCNZ Summit 2007 will see international and local documentary film-makers, distributors, sales agents, exhibitors and government meet to discuss the state of documentary film-making in New Zealand and its future. It will also look at the all important co-production and alternative funding for documentaries as well as the changing face of documentary formats and platforms like animation, podcasts, internet TV and 3G.
Renowned Dutch Director, Leonard Retel Helmricht, will be presenting a Master-class on Single Shot Cinema and local musician Joel Haines and sound engineer, Bruno Barrett-Garnier will collaborate on a workshop on sound and music design for documentaries.
Directors Mark Verkerk (Buddha’s Lost Children), Yonatan Weinstein (My Grandma – Frau Masha) and Peter J MacCarthy and Shane Sutton (Fight or Flight) will all be present during the summit, fielding questions, providing insights into their documenting experiences and offering advice to fellow documentary film makers.
These directors, amongst others, will be joined by representatives from television networks across the world, including Australia’s SBS, Al-Jazeera, China and the USA. NZ Broadcasters will also participate in the Summit.
The tentative list of guests involved in this year’s summit (at time of writing).
