The DOCNZ Team
Dan, Alex, Ewa, Valerie
Today, (May 31st) is the last day for postmarked submissions for the 3rd edition of the DOCNZ Film Festival. While we are still gathering statistics on this year’s submissions, we can tell you that we received a record number of international submissions, many of which have already started collecting international awards and acclaim. The selection process is not going to be an easy one but we are relishing it. Thank you to everyone who submitted a film. We look forward to announcing some selections in the next E-newsletter.
We are thrilled about the quality of films submitted this year. The topics are diverse, the subjects are unique and the story-telling is outstanding. From award-winning documentaries to world and international premieres, at DOCNZ 2007 there will be something for everyone and we can’t wait to reveal the full programme in July.
Due to the high number of requests for additional time, we have decided to extend the deadline for submissions to the DOCNZ Pitching Forum to Friday, 29th June 2007 at 4.00pm.
Here is your chance to submit your film proposal for selection to pitch to a distinguished panel of local and international commissioning editors (see DOCNZ Summit Update below for more details).
Entry Form and Regulations are posted on the DOCNZ website.
The DOCNZ Summit will be held in Auckland, 24–26 September 2007. The 3-day event will include Masterclasses, Seminars and a Pitching Forum. We will announce the content for the Summit in July. We can advise that the theme of the Summit is “Converge 2007”.
The goal of Converge 2007 is to:
Converge 2007 seeks to explore the potential of developing projects across a range of delivery platforms including, but not limited to, web-based projects (broadband and narrowband), hard-media based projects such as CD-ROM, DVD-ROM and games consoles, as well as interactive television, WAP, mobile phones and other satellite or cable-based delivery systems.
Subject to final confirmation, the following international organisations are interested in attending:
We are also pleased that our festival partners overseas will also talent scout New Zealand films for their programming. Our festival partners expressing interest include:
New Zealand commissioners are currently being confirmed. Last year TVNZ, TV3, Prime, South Pacific Picture, Maori Television Service and Gibson Group all joined the Pitching Panel.
In the next few weeks we will confirm more organizations from Europe, USA, and Asia and we will announce them in the next E-newsletter.
The DOCNZ Summit will be an excellent opportunity to learn, network, and share with others from the industry. We look forward to seeing you there.
We are thrilled to announce that DOCNZ will hold a 2-day Seminar in Wellington during the DOCNZ 2007 Festival in November. Our guest, Carole Lee Dean (From the Heart Productions) from California, will run the seminar.
Carole Lee Dean built an industry where there was none. She coined the film industry term “short ends”, creating the multi-million dollar Studio Film and Tape Company with operations in Chicago, New York City, and Los Angeles. She has produced over 100 “HealthStyle” and “Filmmaker” television shows, and established five different grant programmes for filmmakers and writers through From the Heart Productions, Inc. She is an author and international speaker.
