HOOP DREAMS
USA/1994/170mins/English
Dir. Steve James
Voted the best documentary ever made by the International Documentary Association (IDA).
One of the most critically acclaimed documentaries of all-time; Hoop Dreams follows two African-American high school basketball players for nearly five years in their pursuit of becoming NBA superstars. This heartbreaking and deeply rewarding film explores the issues of race, class, and education in modern America.
Hoop Dreams is a master-class on how to make a beautifully sculpted documentary with intimate and emotionally resonant portraits. This extraordinary film shattered the illusion, once and for all, that documentaries can't be as entertaining as fictional films.
Winner of numerous awards including: Audience Favourite Award, Sundance Film Festival 1994 and 1996 Peabody Award.

ROCK N ROLL NERD
Australia/2008/88mins/English
Dir. Rhian Skirving
...let's start by saying that Tim Minchin, the weird little guy with the grand piano and no shoes, is a f**king genius.

International Premiere
Filmed over 3 years, Rock N Roll Nerd charts the rise of one of Australia's unique young talents, Tim Minchin - comedian,
musician and rock 'n' roll megastar. In 2005, struggling and relatively unknown comedian Minchin decides to make a last
ditch attempt to get noticed through a dramatic image change. He catches the eye of an Edinburgh producer, Karen Koran,
and wins a spot at the prestige Edinburgh Arts Festival. Rock n Roll Nerd is an intimate tale of love and ambition and a
rare record of the rise of Tim's career from obscurity to becoming a well known comedian.
Tim Minchin has a rocket marked "fame" strapped to his backside...

FORGOTTEN SILVER
NZ/1995/53mins/English
Dir. Peter Jackson, Costa Botes
Jackson's best movie you've probably never seen.
Rob Gonsalves
eFilmCritic.com
Meet Colin McKenzie, a forgotten pioneer of international cinema whose epic vision and inventiveness compel
total revision of the history books.
Undoubtedly cinema's most unsung auteur, he pioneered film effects like
sound, colour, and tracking shots but his monumental bad luck rendered him completely forgotten.
That is - if he ever existed...
Forgotten Silver, is a tribute by Peter Jackson and Costa Botes to cinema and the genre of documentary.
Like a cinematic documentary detective story, it begins with Jackson's discovery of a neighbour's hoard
of old films. Using these lost films and a narration featuring Jackson, film reviewer Leonard Maltin,
Sam Neill and Harvey Weinstein of Miramax Films, Forgotten Silver is a brilliant piece of moviemaking
and entertainment as well as an example of how to make a great documentary (if it really was one).
Winner, Audience Jury Award, Fantsporto Film Festival 2007
Winner, TV Award Best Director - Drama/Comedy, NZ Film & TV Awards 1996
